Forest Bathing (online class — Politics and Prose)
October 3, 2020 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm EDT
$50.00Join Melanie Choukas-Bradley, author of The Joy of Forest Bathing and Resilience: Connecting With Nature in a Time of Crisis, for a forest bathing presentation and experience that you can enjoy in your own backyard or even your living room. Based on her research for these two books, her forest-bathing trip to Japan, and her experience as a certified forest-bathing guide, she will give you a comprehensive presentation accompanied by beautiful slides on the practice of shinrin-yoku (forest bathing) and give you guidance to lead your own solo or small-group forest-bathing walks during our current crisis and beyond.
Shinrin-yoku, which began in the 1980s in Japan, is rooted in the traditional Japanese reverence for nature. Forest bathing is a mindfulness practice akin to meditation, yoga, and tai chi that involves tuning in to the beauty and wonder of your natural surroundings with all of your senses. Melanie is a nature and forest therapy guide with certification from the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy Guides & Programs and she has participated in guided shinrin-yoku walks throughout Japan.
Melanie will be joined by Ana Ka’ahanui, co-founder of Capital Nature, and fellow forest-bathing guide.
