SUMMARY:Tree ID and Forest Bathing Walk (Guided Walk — Casey Trees)
DESCRIPTION:Register\nJoin Casey Trees\, Friends of Oxon Run Park\, and D.C. naturalist Melanie Choukas-Bradley (Author of City of Trees\, The Joy of Forest Bathing\, and other nature books) for an early spring Tree ID and Forest Bathing Walk in Oxon Run Park\, an urban oasis in the heart of Ward 8. \nWhat to expect: \nAn easy walk led by Melanie as she points out early spring traits of many tree species\, including the tulip tree\, redbud\, sweetbay magnolia\, and river birch. We’ll also see a few of the 200 legacy flowering cherry trees in the park. Then\, as a certified forest bathing guide\, Melanie will guide us through some wonderful sensory nature exercises\, known as forest bathing. She will guide us in and around The Mother’s Peace Garden within the park. \nYou will also get to chat with Casey Trees and hear about our continued tree planting and canopy goals around the city and park. Plus hear from Brenda Richardson of Friends of Oxon Run Park\, who will inspire us to become involved in the renaissance of this urban jewel and the many educational and recreational opportunities it provides. \nCity of Trees author Melanie Choukas-Bradley has led many tree walks for Casey Trees at District landmarks including the Frederick Douglass House\, the US Capitol grounds\, Rock Creek Park\, and Kingman Island. An award-winning author of several nature books\, Melanie also leads nature\, history\, and forest bathing walks for Smithsonian Associates\, the Audubon Naturalist Society\, the US Botanic Garden\, and other organizations. \nTime: We will be onsite for check-in starting at 12:45 pm\, walk will start at 1:00 pm. \nWhat to bring: Comfortable clothes and shoes\, and a filled\, reusable water bottle. No food will be provided.
