Melanie Choukas-Bradley with her book "Finding Solace at Theodore Roosevelt Island"

In 2016, as the presidential election dealt a body-blow to progressive thinkers in the US, Melanie sought the solace of Theodore Roosevelt Island. In this book she reflects on the inspiring environmental legacy of Roosevelt, and how immersing oneself in nature can help to heal, restore and encourage a person…

Melanie Choukas-Bradley is a local naturalist and author of several nature books, most recently, Resilience—Connecting with Nature in a Time of Crisis and Finding Solace at Theodore Roosevelt Island. On December 10, she was a guest on The Kojo Nnamdi Show on WAMU, DC’s NPR affiliate, discussing spending time outdoors in DC during the pandemic in winter. Listen here.
